WALESKA, Ga. (Sept. 16, 2017) â€" Two 45-minute halves and two 10-minute overtime periods were not enough time to determine a winner Saturday evening as the Milligan College women's soccer team drew a tie with Reinhardt University, 2-2.
ÂÂ
Milligan, which fell behind 1-0 within the first two minutes of the game, battled back to force the draw and avoid what would have been the team's first loss in the last four games. The Buffaloes moved their record to 3-1-1 overall (0-0-1 AAC). Reinhardt's record in the AAC is also 0-0-1.
ÂÂ
Sophomore
Bekah Cundiff provided Milligan with the equalizer in the 12
th minute of the first half with an assist from junior
Amy Long. Neither team scored a goal for the next thirty minutes until Reinhardt's forward, Megan Monroe, found the back of the net in the final two minutes of the half forcing the Buffs to trail 2-1 at the half. The Buffs tallied a total of four shots in the first half compared to the Eagles' eight.
ÂÂ
The Buffs responded coming back out into the second half ready to attack. Junior midfielder
Amy Olvera found the back of the net for the first time this season in the 15
th minute of the second half putting both teams at 2 goals apiece. Freshman goalkeeper
Eva Bower saved a shot by Reinhardt's Adrien Merrilles in the final two minutes of the game forcing the first ten minute over time. Bower had four saves for her very first collegiate tie game. Reinhardt's goalie, Nina Haeberlin, also earned four saves.
ÂÂ
Though the Eagles outshot the Buffs 15-10 in a 2-2 draw, Milligan earned three more corner kicks than Reinhardt. Senior
Brittany Davis led the Buffaloes with three shots and two shots on goal.
ÂÂ
The Buffs are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 20, at home as they face King University and again on the road for another Appalachian Athletic Conference contest against Union College on Saturday, Sept. 23. ÂÂ
