Buffs lose AAC match at Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 23, 2017) â€" The Milligan College men's soccer team suffered from a slow start and lost to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union College, 4-1, Saturday night on the road. The start of the match was delayed nearly two hours due to a broken light on Union's field.

Senior Jack Allan scored the lone goal for the Buffs early in the second half on a penalty kick, but it was too little, too late, as Union struck three times in the first 10 minutes of the game on the way to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Union outshot Milligan 16-6, including 9-4 on shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Nick Smith made four saves for the Buffs.

The loss was the third straight for Milligan after a 3-0 win on the road at University of Pikeville earlier this month. Union, which was ranked No. 7 at the end of last season and has been ranked as high as No. 15 this season, won its third straight match to improve to a league best 5-3-1 (3-0 AAC).

Milligan will be at home for its next two matches. Next up, the Buffs host Bluefield College in more AAC action on Wednesday, followed by Tennessee Wesleyan University next Saturday. Both games are slated for a 7 p.m. start after the women's match.
