Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer falls to Bluefield at home

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2017) â€" Freshman Rhys Borror provided the Milligan College men's soccer team a spark with an equalizing goal in the first half, but the Buffs were handed their third Appalachian Athletic Conference loss of the season against Bluefield College, 6-1, Wednesday night on Anglin Field.

The goal was Borror's third of the season, second-most for Milligan this season, and came within three minutes of Bluefield taking the lead midway through the first half. After Bluefield's Abel Bogale broke open the scoring in the 24th minute, Borror intercepted a pass on Bluefield's backline, then buried it into the back of the net to equalize.

The two teams played even for the remainder of the first half, but Bluefield found its way back into the lead early in the second half. On a scoring opportunity near the top of the penalty area, a foul resulted in a penalty kick which made it 2-1 in favor of Bluefield, and the Rams soon ran away with the match scoring four more goals over the next 30 minutes.

Bogale scored one more toward the middle of the second half, and Joe Stacey had two in a span of 12 minutes. Bluefield, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA top 25 poll, improved to 11-1 (4-1 AAC) and have won two of its last three after starting the season 9-0.

Milligan (1-8-1, 0-3 AAC) lost its fourth straight since a big 3-0 win at Pikeville earlier this month.

Senior goalkeeper Nick Smith made eight saves in the loss, moving his career total to 220. Bryan Newbold holds Milligan's career saves record with 264.

Milligan will play again at home on Saturday when the Buffs host Tennessee Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. following the women's game.
