Women's soccer dominates home opener

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 6, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team played its first home game of the 2017 season Wednesday night against the Emory & Henry Wasps. The Buffs earned their second win against the Wasps in a complete shutout, 6-0.

Milligan dominated on the offensive side of the game from the very beginning. Within the first five minutes, sophomore Bekah Cundiff scored her first goal of the game with an assist from sophomore Alyson McMillan.

The Buffaloes pushed the ball up the field attacking the goalkeeper Kayla Wright the rest of the game. Milligan outshot the Wasps 12-1 in the first period and 11-5 in the second period.

Sophomore Dharma Fawbush scored her first goal of the game in the 19th minute of the first half with an assist from senior defender, Sami Joy. Two minutes later, Cundiff attacked scoring her second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season. Another two minutes later, sophomore Alyson McMillan put in another goal for the Buffaloes with an assist by junior Amy Long.

The Buffaloes came back out in the second half keeping the pressure up and added two more goals. Fawbush found the back of the net for the second time of the game off an assist from senior and team captain, Brittany Davis. Ten minutes later, junior Megan Williams scored the final goal of the game following a would-be goal from freshman Poppy Smith that was saved by Wright.

Freshman goalkeeper Eva Bower had her first shutout of her career with four saves, playing all 90 minutes.

The Buffaloes will be on the road for the next two games but will return home Wednesday, Sept. 20, as they face King University.
