Maxwell's career high leads Buffs in third straight AAC win

LAURINBURG, N.C. (Jan. 13, 2018) â€" Junior Rebecca Maxwell connected on 5-of-7 3-point attempts on the way to a career high 21 points to help the Milligan College women's basketball team claim a 66-50 Appalachian Athletic Conference road victory over St. Andrews University on Saturday.

The win put the Buffs back over .500 for the season at 10-9 (6-7 AAC) and extended the Buffs winning streak to three games. St. Andrews lost its fifth straight to drop to 5-11 (3-10 AAC) so far this season.

BUFFS RESPOND AFTER SLOW FIRST QUARTER
After scoring only seven points through the first 10 minutes and trailing by three going into the second quarter, Maxwell gave the Buffs' offense some life with back-to-back threes within the first two minutes. The first one tied the game at 10-10 before the second one game the Buffs the lead.

That lead was short lived as St. Andrews build an advantage back up to six midway through the second quarter, but another Maxwell three late in the first half made it a one-point game and the Buffs down by only one point.

HOW THE BUFFS PULLED AWAY IN THE SECOND HALF
After an even first three minutes of the second half, Maxwell connected on another 3-pointer to make it a five-point Milligan advantage, and the Buffs led by at least that many the rest of the way. The 3-pointer was part of a 7-0 run midway through the third quarter, and Milligan closed the third quarter a few minutes later with a 5-0 run.

It all made it a 48-37 Milligan advantage, and the Buffs were able to manage the lead from there.

LEADERS
Maxwell's career high 21 points came on 7-for-11 shooting, and she added six rebounds, an assist and a steal. Sarah Robinson was next in the scoring column with 14 points and five rebounds. Six other Buffs made at least one field goal.

Freshman Emma Kate Brown gave Milligan a nice spark off the bench with nine points. Andi Lamb scored seven points.

For St. Andrews, two players made it to double figures in scoring, led by Morgan Perkins with 14 points.
