Buffs lose to No. 24 Union by three for second time

BARBOURVILLE, K.Y. (Jan. 18, 2018) â€" After losing by three points earlier in the season in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse to the Bulldogs, Aaron Levarity and Daxton Bostian led the Milligan College men's basketball team in another heartbreaking ending at No. 24 Union College Thursday night. The Buffs (7-11, 6-6 AAC) fell to the Bulldogs (12-7, 9-3 AAC) 95-92.

Levarity led with his 12th double-double of the season, 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Bostian followed with 23 points and five assists.

FIRST HALF BATTLE

After a Bostian 3-pointer in the first minute of the game, it was a toe-to-toe race with Milligan and Union exchanging the lead. Neither team led by no more than four points up until 12:15 remained when the Bulldogs took the lead by one after a basket in the paint.

Union kept their lead the rest of the half, but the Buffs did not settle. While the Bulldogs led by as much as much as nine points, the Buffs worked to diminish the deficit coming within one single point of Union two times in the remaining four minutes of the first half.

BUFFS FINAL SEVEN MINUTE RALLY

Though Milligan trailed by as much as 13 in the second half, Milligan outscored the Bulldogs 48-42. David Casaday drained a 3-pointer to put the Buffs within one single point of Union with just six minutes remaining. One minute later, another Casaday 3-pointer tied the game for the first time since the first three minutes of the game (84-84) with 5:19 to go. Union responded with a 3-pointer of their own and continued with the lead.

Though the Buffs came within one, two, three and four points in the remaining four minutes of the game, it proved not enough as the Bulldogs remained on top defeating the Buffs by three for the second time this season, 95-92.

LEADERS

Following Levarity and Bostian was Casaday with 18 points, 12 of which were 3-pointers. Bo Pless earned 12 points. Green added 8 points while also leading alongside Bostian with five assists. Bostian, Casaday and Green all accounted for three rebounds apiece.

Union had five players enter into the double-digit scoring column led by Lance Blakely and K.J. Duronslet with 21 points apiece. Dominique Lindsey earned 19 points and led with seven assists. Duronslet tallied eight rebounds.

UP NEXT

The Buffs return to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse for their next six games; first of which is Saturday, Jan. 20, against AAC foe Reinhardt University at 4 p.m. following the women's basketball team. Wednesday, Jan. 24, is the next home match up against Johnson University at 7:30 p.m.
