Women's basketball battles back, but drops AAC game to Allen

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2018) -  With nine lead changes over the course of the game, the Milligan College women's basketball team was unable to overcome the sharp shooting of Allen University as they fell Saturday afternoon 69-59 at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Milligan fell to 10-13 overall, and 8-9 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Allen improved to 14-8 overall (11-7 AAC).

LAST TIME THEY MET
Allen got the better of the Buffs in early December as they defeated Milligan 71-54 in Columbia, South Carolina. The Buffs ended the first quarter tied at 18, but Allen would pull away in the next three quarters to secure the victory.

THIS TIME… A TIGHT RACE
The Buffs kept it close from the beginning, scoring the first four points of the game. However, Allen would stick around, matching them in the scoring column. Through the first two quarters, both Milligan and Allen scored 15 points each to enter the half tied at 30.

FIGHT UNTIL THE END
In a game that saw nine lead changes, the Buffs were unable to overcome it in the end. With 8:44 left in the game, Allen led by as much as 11 points, but the Buffs did not go down without a fight. Rebecca Maxwell sparked a late 13-2 run for Milligan with five straight points to help pull them within two, but it was not enough to overcome the sharp shooting of Allen in the last stretch as they fell 69-59.

MILLIGAN LEADERS
Sarah Robinson electrified the scoring column for the Buffs with 22 points on the game shooting 8-for-13 from the field, the highest shooting percentage of the game. Mackenzie Raizor and Emma Kate Brown followed in stride with 11 and eight respectively. Raizor led the Buffs in rebounds with a game high 14 earning her fifth double-double on the year, and fourth straight.  Robinson and Brown followed with eight rebounds a piece.

FOR ALLEN
Senior Kamya Thomas recorded a game high 28 points to lead the Yellow Jackets. The only other player for Allen to reach double digits was Acestra Robinson with 13. Thomas also led Allen in rebounds alongside Patriece Dodson and Latisha Brown with six each.

NEXT UP
The Buffs continue a four-game home stand as they host Tennessee Wesleyan University on Jan. 30, in a doubleheader with the men's team. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
