MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 21, 2018) â€" The Milligan College tennis teams brought a little heat to the chilly fall afternoon at Mathes Tennis Center Sunday, defeating Maryville College in swift fashion to close out the 2018 leg of the 2018-19 season. Milligan's men won 9-0 without dropping a game in singles; the women won 8-1.
ÂÂ
The day saw some new doubles lineups from the Buffaloes.
Mason Grear and
Drake Christensen turned in the first win of the day in hardly 20 minutes of action by winning 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. It set the tone for the rest of the day as the other two doubles matches turned in easy wins before all six singles matches went only 12 games. Grear (No. 1),
Taylor Graalman (No. 2),
Griffin Leonard (No. 4) and
Thomas Hurt (No. 6) all improved to 3-0 this fall season, and Milligan improved to 3-0 as well.
ÂÂ
Four Buffs won their singles match without dropping a game on the women's side:
Lexie Hill (No. 1),
Karson Light (No. 3),
Minda Martin (No. 4) and
Rachel Blankenship (No. 6). Light's victory moved her to a team best 4-0 record as Milligan improved to 3-1 this fall. Martin improved to 3-1 along with
Chessa Jones, who won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and
Marlaina Peterson, who won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
ÂÂ
The women's side also featured some new lineups as Hill paired with
Rachel Dove and Jones paired with
Hannah Nelson, both for the first time this season. Both duos won 8-0 at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
ÂÂ
Similarly for the men,
Blaye Davis and
Boone Allison saw their first action of the season at No. 1 doubles on the men's side, and
Logan Burns and
Richard Fisher played for the first time at No. 2 doubles. Those pairs won 8-4 and 8-3.
ÂÂ
With the fall portion of the schedule complete, Milligan will next be in action in 2019 when the Buffs kick off the spring portion with a match Feb. 20 against Tusculum University. Milligan's first two matches of the spring are scheduled to take place at Mathes Tennis Center.
