Women's soccer falls in AAC title match

ATHENS, Tenn. (Nov. 10, 2018) â€" Junior Bekah Cundiff gave the Buffs some momentum early in the second half, but the Milligan College women's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit, losing to Tennessee Wesleyan University, 5-1, Saturday in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament championship match.
 
Tennessee Wesleyan scored twice in the first half and led 2-1 midway through the second half before pouring in three more goals in the final 25 minutes. The last two came with less than four minutes left.
 
Milligan (11-7-1, 8-4 AAC) snapped its six-match winning straight while Tennessee Wesleyan (12-5-1, 9-2-1 AAC) won its 11th straight game and third straight AAC tournament title. The match featured the top two teams from the AAC's preseason poll.
 
Cundiff scored her team leading ninth goal of the season in the 48th minute to split the Tennessee Wesleyan advantage in half, but the Bulldogs answered back in the 66th minute to retake its cushion on the lead. Cundiff's goal marked the only time Milligan put one in the net in 10 shots (four on goal).
 
Seniors Amy Long and Madison Thomas led the Buffs with three shots apiece. Defensively, goalkeeper Eva Bower made five saves compared to Tennessee Wesleyan keeper Kelly Morine who made three.
