Women's basketball wins fifth in a row

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 17, 2018) â€" Five Buffs reached double figures in scoring to propel the Milligan College women's basketball team past Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union College, 86-76, Saturday at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
Led by Kaely Gose who scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, Milligan stayed perfect on the season at 5-0 (3-0 AAC). The win also was Milligan's eighth over Union in the last nine meetings.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Gose was followed by Emma Kate Brown who scored a career high 14 points and added five rebounds. Mackenzie Raizor registered 12 points with nine rebounds; Andi Lamb scored 11 points with four assists; and freshman Hannah Wyrick tallied 10 points to go along with three assists.
 
Milligan scorched the net in the first half, shooting 18-of-29 (62.1%) from the field and 6-of-12 (50%) from three. For the game, Milligan shot 31-for-56 (55.4%) from the field and 8-for-21 (38.1%) from the perimeter.
 
Senior Sarah Robinson filled up the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, one block and three steals.
 
GAME FACTS
The game featured only one tie and Milligan trailed for only one possession, but Union (3-2, 2-2 AAC) kept it close for the majority of the contest. It was a five-point game (20-15) at the end of the first quarter, an eight-point game (51-43) at the break, and, despite Milligan going out by as many as 16 in the third quarter, a six-point game (81-75) with less than five minutes left in regulation. Milligan finished on a 5-1 run over the last three and a half minutes.
 
Brown scored the bucket, after a great pass from Lamb, to give Milligan a 67-51 lead, its largest of the game, midway through the third quarter. Union followed with a 5-0 run of its own, but Milligan made enough free throws late in the period to keep the lead in double figures.
 
In the final quarter, Union cut it to a seven-point game three times and a two-point game twice but never closer. Raizor answered the Bulldogs the first time they cut it to two possessions. Teal Davis scored a bucket the second time Union came within two possessions.
 
FOR UNION
Three players (Cheyanne Stidham, Logan Calvert and Chariss Wilson) made it to double figures in scoring, each with 14 points. Brooke Hammonds scored eight points and added a team high eight rebounds.

Milligan hits the road for Reinhardt University Tuesday, Nov. 20, before returning home for Truett McConnell University Wednesday, Nov. 28. Both games are slated for 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
