Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 23 women's basketball suffers first loss

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (Dec. 15, 2018) â€" One of the longest season-opening winning streaks in the history of the Milligan College women's basketball program came to an end Saturday as the No. 23 Buffaloes fell on the road, 92-62, to College of Coastal Georgia.

Mackenzie Raizor led Milligan (9-1) with 10 points, but five Mariners made it to double figures in scoring on the way to the Buffs first loss since last February. In all, Milligan entered Saturday having won nine straight games to open the season, the most since the 2015-16 squad also opened the season 9-0. That team went on to lose its 10th game as well but still won 12 of its first 13, earned the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season title and made the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship.

COASTAL GEORGIA'S BIG FIRST HALF
Coastal Georgia (9-5) dominated the game, which featured two of the highest scoring offenses in the nation, from the opening quarter. Led by Brianna Gipson's 26 points, the Mariners scored the first nine points of the game and held a 44-26 advantage at the half.

Milligan trimmed it only as low as 14 in the second half after coming out of the break on an 8-4 run.

MILLIGAN LEADERS
Raizor was the only Buff in double figures for scoring, but she was one of 10 Buffs to enter the scoring column. Kaely Gose followed with nine, Emma Kate Brown scored eight, and Andi Lamb, Hannah Wyrick and Rebecca Maxwell each scored seven.

Milligan shot 23-of-61 from the field (37.7 percent) and 8-of-26 from three (30.8 percent).

FOR COASTAL GEORGIA
Gipson led one of the hottest shooting teams in NAIA Division II with 26 points and eight rebounds. The Mariners entered the contest as the No. 5 team in 3-point field goal percentage at 37.9 but only took six attempts (3-for-6).
