Second half surge dooms Buffs in exhibition game

BOONE, N.C. (Dec. 20, 2018) â€" Despite a near double-double from Aaron Levarity, the Milligan College men's basketball team fell on the road 99-60 in an exhibition contest against Appalachian State University Thursday night.
 
The Buffaloes used a 12-3 run early in the first half behind nine points from Tyler Faulkenberry to open up a 16-15 lead at the 13:18 mark. Milligan's lead would not last for long as the Mountaineers quickly jumped back on top and slowly began to build their lead against the Buffs.
 
Appalachian State would increase their lead to seven, but the Buffs would answer with a quick 4-0 spurt to pull within three with 6:45 remaining. Milligan's momentum would quickly fade as the Mountaineers followed with a 7-0 run to open up their largest lead of the game at 10.
 
Milligan trailed 40-31 at the intermission, but the beginning of the second was all Mountaineers as they used an 8-0 run to put the game away.

BY THE NUMBERS
Levarity finished with 15 points to lead three Buffs in double figures on the night. The senior forward added nine rebounds, finishing just one shy of a double-double.
 
Faulkenberry and Tyler Nichols added 14 and 12 points respectively to round out the Buffs offensively. Nichols also chipped in five rebounds.
 
Overall, Milligan shot just under 40 percent from the field and finished 7-of-23 from behind the arc. Appalachian State scorched the nets shooting at a 54.4 percent clip from the field and was 13-of-26 from 3-point range.
 
Ronshad Shabazz poured in 29 points to lead the Mountaineers and Isaac Johnson registered 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
 
UP NEXT
The Buffs have a quick turnaround as they remain on the road for a contest against UNC Asheville Friday at 2 p.m. Milligan's next home contest will be in 2019 when they host Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bluefield Thursday, Jan. 10, at approximately 7:30 p.m.
