Buffs collect big AAC win against Point

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2018) â€" Senior David Casaday, junior Aaron Levarity and sophomore Mike Featherston led the Milligan College men's basketball team in a big win against Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Point University, 95-49. The Buffs defeated the Skyhawks for the second time this season and moved to 9-7 in the conference while Point dropped to 3-15 in the conference.

Casaday led all scorers with 24 points going 8-for-13 from the 3-point line. Levarity recorded his sixth straight and 17th total double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds while Featherston recorded his first double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

BUFFS DOMINATE EARLY

Right off the bat Milligan attacked and put up a front on the defensive end as the Buffs earned the first 10 points of the game. It took five minutes for the Skyhawks to get up on the scoreboard and it took 10 minutes for the Skyhawks to score again (19-3). The Buffs went on to lead by as little as 12 points and closed out the half with a 31-point lead (50-19). Milligan went 8-for-11 from 3-point territory shooting 72.7% and outrebounded Point 31-15.

A SPIRITED FINISH

Milligan came back out in the second half with the same determination to dominate on both sides of the floor. Despite the Skyhawks shooting seven more times than the Buffs, Milligan outscored Point 64-34. The Buffs led by as much as 51 points and never by fewer than 32 points.

The Buffs shot 50% from the field while the Skyhawks shot 25.6% from the field. Milligan outrebounded Point again in the second half, 32-25.

STATISTICAL LEADERS

All 13 Buffs that earned minutes found their way into the scoring column. Following Casaday, Levarity and Featherston was Daxton Bostian with eight points and Will Buckner with seven points. Desean Green led alongside Featherston with five assists.

For Point, Tyonn Stuckey led with 12 points and Hakeem Winters followed with 10 points. Winters, Lawrence Castor and Jay Shorts all earned five rebounds apiece.

UP NEXT

With a quick turnaround the Buffs will return to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Monday, Feb. 5, for another AAC matchup against Bluefield College at 7:30 p.m. following the women who are at 5:30 p.m. For the first time in six games, Milligan will be back on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 7, to Bryan College.
