Buffs seal second straight AAC win

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2018) â€" Despite a late second half surge from the Skyhawks, the Milligan College women's basketball team took down Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Point University 63-56 Saturday afternoon at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Milligan has now won two straight against two of the top four teams in the conference to improve to 10-9 in the AAC, 14-11 overall. Point, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA top 25 poll, fell to 14-6 in the AAC, 17-8 overall.

THE LATE SURGE
Despite leading by as much as 18 points in the second half, streaky shooting from the Skyhawks allowed them to pull within three points halfway through the fourth quarter. Point scored 14 unanswered points before the Buffs were able to reenter the scoring column.

Sophomore Emily Kiser ended the run with two straight 3-pointers to deflate the late push. Kaely Gose also provided a much needed spark for the offense late in the game recording two assists, including one to Kiser for three, and four points in 19 seconds. Kiser and Gose would combine for 10 of the Buffs' 15 points in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

COMPLETE CONTROL
The Buffs took control of the lead in the second minute of the game and refused to relinquish it. Mackenzie Raizor and Sarah Robinson got things rolling for the Buffs as they combined for nine straight points, all 3-pointers, in one minute to trigger a 12-2 run early in the quarter.

Milligan continued the second quarter the same way it ended the first. Eight straight points for the Buffs sparked another 15-4 run to put the game seemingly out of reach. The Skyhawks would not go down without out a fight as they battled back at several points, but were unable to overcome the lead as Milligan went on to win 63-56.

MILLIGAN LEADERS
Raizor led the Buffs in both scoring and rebounding with a game high 14 points and eight rebounds. Kiser followed suit with 12 points, going 4-for-6 from behind the arc. Robinson recorded nine points and eight rebounds on the night.
