BLUEFIELD, Va. (March 18, 2018) â€" The Milligan College baseball team used a strong start to claim victory in the series finale, but it was not enough as Bluefield College won the Appalachian Athletic Conference series on Sunday. After Bluefield won the series opener on Friday, the two teams split a doubleheader Sunday. Milligan lost game one of the twin bill 7-3 before winning game two 10-8.

Junior
Jeffrey Mefford pitched a complete game in the finale, striking out 10 while allowing eight hits, eight runs (seven earned) and two walks. Senior
Jascanel Ferreras paced Milligan's offense with a 3-for-5 effort as he scored twice and drove in two runs while hitting a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
ÂÂ
Milligan jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top half of the third only to see Bluefield battle back to make it 6-5 in the bottom of the third. Two Milligan runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the seventh proved to be the difference.
ÂÂ
In game one of the doubleheader, Bluefield took the early lead only to see Milligan battle back to go ahead 3-2 midway through the third. Bluefield answered, however, with three runs in the bottom of the third and led the rest of the way.
ÂÂ
Up next, Milligan heads to Shawnee State in Portsmouth, Ohio, for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday. These two teams played at Anglin Field earlier this season and split a doubleheader, Milligan winning the first game 7-5 but dropping the second 7-5. The next home game for the Buffs is scheduled for next Friday-Saturday.
