Softball wins seventh straight after Columbia sweep

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 23, 2018) â€" Freshman Neelee Griffith's grand slam in the bottom of the fifth in game one backed up by stellar pitching by Jaclyn Jenkins in game two highlighted the Milligan College softball sweep over Columbia College Friday afternoon on Anglin Field. Milligan (10-8, 5-3 AAC) took the first game 12-3 and the second 8-0.

The doubleheader marked the Buffs second straight Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep.

GAME ONE
The Koalas right off the bat earned two hits and a run in the top of the first. However, the Buffs responded in the bottom of the second and third with a run in each including a homer apiece by Kirstan Beaver and Jenna Gilbert. In the top of the fourth Columbia touched home two more times to make it 3-2. Nonetheless, the Buffs came out in the bottom of the fourth with a response of their own swinging for three hits enabling a five run lead (8-3).

After a hitless and scoreless fifth inning for the Koalas, Griffith's grand slam put the 8-run rule into effect for the first time of the day (12-3).

GAME TWO
Jenkins pitched a complete game shutout, her first of the season, while also leading with two hits. Jenkins allowed only two hits throughout the five innings. Milligan's first two runs came early in the bottom of the second inning and another run was tallied in the fourth. Similar to the first game, Milligan put the game out of reach in the fifth touching home five times again putting the 8-run rule into effect (8-0).
