Buffs open Point series with split twin bill

WEST POINT, Ga. (April 13, 2018) â€" Camron Harper pitched eight solid innings on the mound while going 3-for-4 with three RBI's at the plate in game one to help the Milligan College baseball team split an Appalachian Athletic Conference series-opening doubleheader with Point University Friday night. The Buffs won game one 11-8 but lost game two 12-6.
 
Milligan, which is in the middle of a 10-game road swing, moved its record to 15-23 (9-11 AAC).
 
HARPER SHINES
Harper was the key for the Buffs in game one, turning in eight quality innings in the start while also adding three hits, three RBI's and two runs from the leadoff spot. He helped the Buffs jump out to a lead in the top of the first inning by reaching on a walk then seeing a run come around to score on a Thomas Miller two-RBI single.
 
The Buffs went ahead 2-0 after the first inning then 7-0 midway through the third. Point did cut the lead to 7-4 but Milligan scored what proved to be the difference with three more runs in the fifth. Clayton Conner accounted for most of the fifth inning runs by hitting his fourth home run of the season, scoring Harper and Hunter Suggs.
 
Harper's winning line on the mound included eight innings, 10 hits, four earned runs, no walks and four strikeouts.
 
POINT EVENS THE SERIES
Milligan again went out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning in game two, but this time Point had an answer. The Skyhawks scored three runs to tie the game in the second, two more to tie the game in the third, then took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth.
 
Milligan starter Jeffrey Mefford went the first three and one-third innings but ended up taking the loss as he gave up nine runs, only four of which were earned, on eight hits and five walks. He struck out three.
 
At the plate, Harper once again provided multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
 
UP NEXT
Milligan and Point will finish the series with a single game on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. The next home game for the Buffs will be the start of the final series of the regular season when the Buffs host Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday-Saturday, April 27-28.
