Buffs end season with 3-1 loss in AAC tourney

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (May 4, 2018) â€" Junior starting pitcher Camron Harper turned in one of his best starts of the season and three Buffs recorded three hits, but the Milligan College baseball team's season ended with a 3-1 loss to Reinhardt University Friday morning in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament.

Milligan, which had a thrilling come from behind win in an elimination game Thursday morning, could not match the effort from the previous game and finished the season with a record of 19-31 (11-16 AAC).

HARPER THROWS COMPLETE GAME
Harper was on the verge of not getting another start this season as the Buffs trailed Montreat College late in Thursday's game, but the Buffs ended up prevailing and Harper made the most of his chance. The junior threw a complete game against Reinhardt, allowing only three runs and seven hits over eight innings. He struck out seven and walked none.

Harper was also one of three Buffs with three hits at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored.

FERRERAS, MILLER PRODUCE THREE HITS
Seniors Jascanel Ferreras and Thomas Miller were the other Buffs with three hits. Ferreras (3-for-5) put the Buffs on the board in the seventh with an RBI double to left-center field, scoring Harper to make it 3-1. Miller (3-for-4) had a trio of singles, including singles in each of his last two at-bats.

MILLIGAN'S CHANCES
The Buffs left 10 runners on base in the loss, including one in every inning except the second. The first of their good scoring chances came in the top of the first as Harper and Ferreras reached to lead the inning off and ended up at second and third with nobody out. Reinhardt escaped the jam without any damage by striking out the next three.

An inning later, Garrett Dalton hit one which looked to be a base hit up the middle, but Reinhardt second baseman Cal Miller was moving to cover second with a base runner running and ended up turning a 4-6-3 double play.

In the top of the eighth, Brandon Laboy had similar luck as a line drive labeled for left field, which would have put the tying run on base, was instead speared by shortstop Chandler Wold for the third out of the inning.

GAME STATS
Milligan out-hit Reinhardt 11-7 as Bailey Russell also recorded a multihit game with a 2-for-4 effort.

Reinhardt scored all three of its runs thanks to timely hitting, leadoff hits and a trio of doubles. In the first, a leadoff double was moved around to score after a sacrifice bunt and a groundout to second. In the fourth, a leadoff single came around to score on an RBI double. In the fifth, it was another double, this one with two out, which scored a leadoff single.
