Habte nets hat trick, Buffs cruise

EMORY, Va. (Sept. 4, 2018) â€" Backed by a hat trick from Robell Habte, the Milligan College men's soccer team remained undefeated with a dominating 7-1 win at Emory & Henry College (2-1) Tuesday night.

With the victory, the Buffs continued one of their best starts in program history as they are now 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

BUFFS SCORE EARLY AND OFTEN
It didn't take long for Milligan's leading goal scorer, Roberto Fernandez Garrido, to find the back of the net. The freshman put the Buffs on the board in the fifth minute of the game, marking the third straight match he has netted the first goal.

Less than three minutes later, Habte scored his first of three goals to make it 2-0 Milligan. Habte would find the net once again at the 10 minute mark before serving up an assist to Garrido in the 14th minute to make it 4-0 Milligan.

OFFENSIVE ATTACK CONTINUES IN THE SECOND
After a scoreless final 31 minutes of the first half, Milligan got right back in the scoring column in the 49th minute thanks to Habte's third goal of the match.

Jordan Burch got involved in the action in the 70th minute with his second goal of the season to put the Buffs up 6-1. Burch added an assist to his line in the 74th minute finding Joel Dominguez, who netted his first goal of the season to wrap up the scoring for the Buffs.

BY THE NUMBERS
As the final score would indicate, Milligan dominated the box score recording 14 shots to the Wasps four, including 11 shots on goal. Habte led the team with four shots (three on goal) and Garrido followed with three that were all on goal. Garrett Wertz brought energy off the bench along with Burch recording two shots (both on goal).

Keeper Luke Dove recorded two saves on the night, but did allow his first goal of the season ending his 245-minute scoreless streak.

Milligan kicks off Appalachian Athletic Conference play this Saturday as they travel to Athens, Tennessee, to square off against Tennessee Wesleyan.
