MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2019) â€" A double-double from
Sarah Robinson and another big day from the 3-point line from
Emily Kiser led the Milligan College women's basketball team to its fourth straight win Saturday at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Robinson scored 13 and added 10 rebounds while Kiser went 5-of-7 from the perimeter as Milligan defeated Tennessee Wesleyan University, 79-61.
ÂÂ
Milligan improved to 13-3 (11-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) and remained one and a half games back of Bryan College for the AAC lead. Tennessee Wesleyan entered Saturday on a two game winning streak with wins in five of the last six games but fell to 9-6 (7-6 AAC).ÂÂ
ÂÂ
TALE OF SECOND HALF
The game featured three ties, eight lead changes and a five-point Milligan lead at the intermission, but the Buffs used another strong second half to put the game away. Tennessee Wesleyan made it a four-point game with a minute and a half to go in the third quarter before Kiser and
Mackenzie Raizor knocked down back-to-back threes in the final minute to extend Milligan's lead to 10.
ÂÂ
Raizor hit hers at the buzzer off an assist from
Teal Davis, and Milligan carried the momentum into the final period, as Kiser (x2),
Hannah Wyrick and
Andi Lamb made 3-pointers on four straight possessions during a 14-6 run midway through the fourth quarter. It put Milligan into its largest lead of the game until that point (71-55).
ÂÂ
MILLIGAN LEADERS
Kiser (15 points off the bench) and Robinson, who tallied her fourth double-double of the season, were among four Buffs in double figures. Lamb led the way with 16 points alongside eight rebounds, three assists and no turnovers in 29 minutes. Raizor scored 14 points with five rebounds.
ÂÂ
Robinson picked up her 10th rebound on Tennessee Wesleyan's last miss of the game, yet was relatively close to a triple-double, tallying a team-high five assists and two blocks.
ÂÂ
In the team categories, Milligan shot 42 percent from the field but scorched the net from three at 40 percent. Defensively, the Buffs held the Bulldogs to 34 percent from the field and 24 percent from three.
ÂÂ
FOR TENNESSEE WESLEYAN
Hunter Simpson, last year's AAC player of the year, led all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds. Hannah Cherry followed with 17 points as the only other Bulldog in double figures.
