Buffs extend winning streak to seven at SAU

LAURINBURG, N.C. (Jan. 19, 2019) â€" Andi Lamb and Emily Kiser each made a pair of free throws in the final seconds to help seal a 69-65 victory for the Milligan College women's basketball team over St. Andrews University Saturday afternoon on the road. Milligan led by as many as 22 in the fourth quarter before St. Andrews stormed back and threatened to end the Buffs' winning streak, which is now up to seven games.

The win improved Milligan to 16-3 (14-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference). St. Andrews moved to 9-9 (8-8 AAC) with just its third loss in the last 12 games. Milligan, winning 85-63 over SAU back in November, won the season series and improved to 14-0 against St. Andrews since the Knights joined the league for the 2012-13 season.

CLOSE FINISH DESPITE BIG LEAD
Milligan trailed only once the whole way through and led by as many as 22 but still needed to make clutch free throws in the final 20 seconds to put the win on ice. Lamb made the first pair, with Milligan ahead 65-63 and only 15.2 seconds left. After Lamb's two makes and a miss by St. Andrews on the other end, Kiser grabbed the rebound and went to the line, making her two to extend Milligan's lead to 69-63. St. Andrews scored the last basket of the game as time wound down.

St. Andrews' only lead of the game was early in the first quarter, and a tough Milligan defense allowed the Buffs to go ahead 34-20 at the break. In fact, Milligan held the Knights to only six points in the first quarter.

MILLIGAN LEADERS
Four Buffs made it to double figures, led by Lamb with 12. Kiser and Sarah Robinson each followed with 11, and Kaely Gose and Cassidy Anderson each scored 10. Mackenzie Raizor registered another big day on the glass, posting 12 rebounds.

FOR ST. ANDREWS
Only seven Knights entered the scoring column. Samantha Ring (23 points) led all scorers, and Morgan Perkins registered a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
