No. 22 women's basketball wins big at Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Feb. 14, 2019) â€" A big run in the second half by the No. 22 Milligan College women's basketball team led to an 81-57 win for the Buffaloes over Bluefield College Thursday evening in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.
 
Milligan (24-5, 22-3 AAC) has now won eight of the last nine games and 15 of the last 17 while snapping a two-game winning streak for Bluefield and dropping the Rams to 14-15 (13-12 AAC). Milligan also won the season series against Bluefield after posting a 75-66 win back on Jan. 10 and improved to 7-3 against the Rams since they rejoined the AAC in the 2014-15 season.
 
SECOND HALF RUN SENDS BUFFS TO SECOND STRAIGHT WIN
Milligan and Bluefield remained relatively close most of the way through until an 11-2 run spanning the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth quarter helped the Buffaloes pull away. Kasey Gordon started the run with a 3-pointer to make it 47-37, the first double-figure lead of the game. Cassidy Anderson followed with made free throws and Teal Davis followed with a basket to send Milligan to a 51-39 lead at the end of the third quarter.
 
Sarah Robinson finished the run with a basket underneath to make it 55-39 early in the fourth quarter, then followed later with another one underneath that made it a 20-point game at 63-43. In all, it was a 19-6 run which put Milligan well out of reach.
 
LEADERS
Robinson led Milligan with 15 points while adding six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal. Kaely Gose and Emma Kate Brown joined Robinson in double figures with 13 and 12, respectively. Brown came off the bench and added four rebounds.
 
Mackenzie Raizor led the rebounding effort with 10 boards alongside seven points and four blocks.
 
For Bluefield, Danae Cox led the way with 20 points. Kierra Bell-Linnear scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
Milligan finishes the regular season Saturday with a trip to Gainesville, Georgia, to face Brenau University (6-21, 4-20 AAC). Milligan defeated Brenau 82-56 when they met earlier this season at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The AAC tournament is scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 21-23, in Kingsport.
