MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (Feb. 23, 2019) â€" Freshman
Chance Hall pitched all seven innings of the rubber game, and the Milligan College baseball team won the series at Brewton-Parker College Saturday. After Milligan won the series opener, 15-10, in 12 innings Friday night, Brewton-Parker ran away with game two, 11-2, but Milligan bounced back with a 6-4 win in the series finale.
ÂÂ
Milligan (4-6) fell behind early in the first game but jumped out on top early in the second game. Hall threw the first complete game of his young career, scattering eight hits, two walks and four (earned) runs across seven innings.
ÂÂ
MILIGAN FALLS BEHIND EARLY, GAME ONE
Milligan fell behind quickly in game one, and it all got a lot worse in the sixth inning when Brewton-Parker put up six runs before Milligan's last at-bat.
Jeffrey Mefford made the start but pitched only the first inning, as a double, two singles and a walk chased the right-hander before he recorded the first out of the second inning.
ÂÂ
Mike Perez, who pitched in relief, limited the damage in the second and looked good through the next two innings but gave up two runs in the fifth and all six in the sixth.
ÂÂ
Milligan scored its two runs in game one in the sixth and seventh.
Chayse Frye doubled in the first run before
Juan Vasquez singled in the second run.
ÂÂ
MILLIGAN BOUNCES BACK, GAME TWO
Braden Jones got the scoring going early for Milligan in game two. With the bases loaded and two out in the second inning, Jones drove in two on a single to left. The inning started off with Brewton-Parker getting the first two out.
ÂÂ
Extra-base hits from
Blake Dutton and Vasquez more than doubled Milligan's lead three innings later. After Jones reached with one out, Dutton doubled him home to make it 3-0, and Vasquez followed one batter later with a two-run homer to make it 5-0.
ÂÂ
Brewton-Parker battled back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough. In fact, the Barons' rally in the bottom of the seventh saw the tying run reach first base, but a groundout ended the threat and the game.
ÂÂ
UP NEXT
Milligan will next be home, weather pending, Tuesday, Feb. 26, for a midweek doubleheader versus University of Pikeville. The Appalachian Athletic Conference slate is then set to begin next, when the Buffaloes host Truett McConnell University Friday-Saturday, March 1-2.
