Baseball drops finale, series at Reinhardt

EMERSON, Ga. (March 11, 2019) â€" The Milligan College baseball team led early but dropped the finale and was swept in the series Monday at Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Reinhardt University. Milligan lost both games of a doubleheader, 9-4 and 1-0, Sunday before falling 12-3 in the finale Monday.

Milligan gets first lead but falls in finale
Milligan looked to salvage part of the trip to Emerson, Georgia, by taking the lead early in game three of the series, but Reinhardt quickly battled back and put the game out of reach with a big swing in the sixth inning.

Camron Harper went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead Milligan in Monday's loss, and the senior was a part of Milligan taking its early lead. After a run came in on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 in the first inning, Harper doubled in the game's second run with a one-out double to left field. Blake Dutton followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Harper, to make it 3-0, but Milligan surrendered three runs in the fourth to tie then six runs in the sixth as Reinhardt pulled away.

Reinhardt wins series with two wins Sunday
Milligan put together a big fifth inning in game one and Harper threw a gem in game two, but Reinhardt took the series Sunday with a doubleheader sweep, winning 9-4 and 1-0.

Reinhardt scored early in the first game with a pair of runs in the third and another pair in the fourth. Milligan managed to tie the game with four runs in the fifth, but it was all the scoring the Buffaloes would do. Reinhardt added scoring in each of the next three innings to take the opener.

In Milligan's fifth, Chayse Frye (RBI double), Brandon Laboy (RBI single) and Baily Psathas (two-RBI double) provided the run-scoring hits back-to-back-to-back. Chase Marine made the start and went the first 3 2/3 innings before seeing relief by Wyatt Sowers and Wyatt Richardson.

Harper made the start and tossed a complete game in the nightcap but suffered the loss despite allowing only five hits, one walk and one run.
