COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 14, 2019) â€"
Erin Forgety struck out 10 in game one, and the Milligan College softball team ran away with game two to claim a doubleheader sweep over the Yellow Jackets of Allen University Thursday in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. Milligan won game one 4-1 and game two 11-0 in six innings.
ÂÂ
Forgety, a freshman, matched her career high with her 10-K performance in the opener. She allowed only three hits and no walks, and the only run she surrendered came in the seventh on a solo homer that proved to be all the scoring Milligan would allow for the day.
ÂÂ
Neelee Griffith provided the go-ahead RBI in the top of the first with a single to score
Erica Roller, then Griffith came home to make it 2-0 on a
Madison Grindstaff RBI shortly thereafter. Roller doubled in a run in the second inning to make it 3-0, and
Kirstan Beaver doubled in a run in the sixth to make it 4-0.
ÂÂ
Senior
Kassi Butcher picked up in game two where Forgety left off in the complete-game effort in game one. Butcher threw the first five innings of the nightcap, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out four.
Josie Milam closed out the final inning with one strikeout.
ÂÂ
Milligan (8-10, 6-4 AAC) scored the go-ahead run in game two in the third inning, and it proved to be a big inning.
Macie Herrmann got the scoring going by coming across on an error, then
Savannah Nocera (RBI single) and Griffith (two-RBI double) made it 4-0 by the end of the third. Milligan punched across two more runs in the fourth and five more runs in the sixth.
ÂÂ
Allison Davidson hit a solo homer, and Beaver hit a three-run homer to round out the scoring in the sixth.
ÂÂ
Up next, Milligan hits the road for Union College Tuesday, March 19, before coming home, weather pending, for a doubleheader against Truett McConnell University Friday, March 22.
