MONTREAT, N.C. (March 17, 2019) â€"
Juan Vasquez had five hits and five runs as it was all offense in the finale between the Milligan College baseball team and Montreat College Sunday afternoon. Milligan scored seven runs over last two innings to win 18-11 and sweep the Appalachian Athletic Conference series.
ÂÂ
Vasquez's five runs tied the Milligan (7-12, 3-6 AAC) record for a single-game effort, while his five hits were one shy of the Milligan record. Milligan and Montreat combined for 22 runs (11-11) through the first seven innings before Milligan put the game away with six runs in the eighth.
William Oliver hit a grand slam in the inning, the first home run of his career, and
Blake Dutton followed two batters later with a two-run homer.
ÂÂ
The home runs were two of the four hit by Milligan in the big win.
Isaac Barkley hit the first two home runs of his career with dingers in the first inning and sixth inning, both two-run shots.
ÂÂ
Milligan belted out 21 hits, including five from Vasquez, three from Oliver, three from
Snaider Torrealba and three from
Camron Harper. Dutton and Barkley each had two hits.
ÂÂ
Up next, Milligan will be on the road for a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday at University of Pikeville before coming home, weather pending, Friday and Saturday for a three-game AAC series against Point University.
