MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 22, 2019) â€" Strong pitching from freshman
Erin Forgety and senior
Kassi Butcher helped Milligan College's softball team split a doubleheader against No. 17 Truett McConnell University Friday evening at Anglin Field. Milligan won game one 3-1 but gave up two runs in the last two innings of a 2-1 game-two loss. The twin bill served as the Buffs' home opener.
ÂÂ
Forgety went the first five innings of the opening game, allowing only four hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out three. She was perfect the first time through the nationally-ranked Truett McConnell lineup before surrendering her only run in the fourth on a one-out single. The run made it 3-1 as Milligan already built a three-run lead after a
Madison Cook single in the second and
Kayla Baker single in the third.
ÂÂ
Baker's hit scored two and proved to be all the scoring the Buffs would need moving forward. Butcher relieved Forgety for the final two frames and picked up two strikeouts in a scoreless effort.
ÂÂ
Milligan looked poised to earn a sweep in game two when
Kirstan Beaver singled home
Erica Roller to break open the scoring in the fifth. However, Truett rallied with a run in the sixth, via a double, and a run in the seventh, via a walk, to surge into the lead. Each of Truett's runs in game two came with two out.
ÂÂ
Up next, Milligan hosts AAC foe Bluefield College Monday at 2 p.m. at Anglin Field, the first of 10 straight home games coming up for the Buffs.
