Tennis teams top Montreat in AAC match

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 27, 2019) â€" Milligan College's tennis teams took advantage of a warm afternoon to pick up a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference victories over Montreat College Wednesday at Mathes Tennis Center. The women won 9-0 while the men won 5-4.
 
Both Milligan teams reversed their recent trends as the women won after dropping four of the last five while the men snapped a four-match losing streak. It moved them to 10-7 (2-3 AAC) for the women and 7-9 (1-2 AAC) for the men.
 
As the Milligan women picked up their 10th win as a team, a pair of Buffs approached their 10th win as individuals. Minda Martin won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to improve to 9-6 on the season. McKenzie Grady won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 for her seventh win. The Buffs were all victorious in straight sets on the women's side, including Lexie Hill who won 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot.
 
The men's match proved to be much closer, but the Buffs were still up to the challenge. Taylor Graalman improved to a team-leading 12-4 mark in singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2. Thomas Hurt moved to 9-6, second best on the team, with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6. Charlie Moseley rounded out the singles victories for Milligan with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court No. 3.
 
With a split in singles, Milligan picked up the difference in doubles, as Boone Allison/Graalman won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles while Moseley/Joseph Lyttle turned in an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
Up next, Milligan heads to Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tennessee, on Friday, March 29, before returning home for the final four matches of the regular season. The four remaining home dates are scheduled for March 31, April 3, April 5 and April 6.
