Tennis comes up short at Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. (March 29, 2019) â€" Milligan College's tennis teams traveled to Tennessee Wesleyan University Friday for the final road match of the regular season. McKenzie Grady won in both doubles and singles, but the women's team lost 6-3 while the men's team lost 9-0.
 
Grady won with Lexie Hill, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, to get the day started before handing in her closest match of the season at No. 6 singles. Grady won the first set 7-2 in a tiebreak, lost the second set 7-4 in a tiebreak, then won the deciding third set super tiebreaker 10-8. It marked only the second time Grady went to a third set this season, and she improved to 2-0 in such matches.
 
Marlaina Peterson picked up the other point for Milligan's women (10-8, 2-4 AAC) with a win by retirement at No. 5 singles.
 
The win was Grady's eighth singles win of the season while Peterson won her team-leading 14th.
 
On the men's side, Taylor Graalman played the closest match of the day, winning big in the second set after losing the first in a breaker. However, Graalman was defeated 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.
 
Milligan's men fell to 7-10 (1-3 AAC) this season. Tennessee Wesleyan ranks No. 10 on the men's side and is receiving votes on the women's side.
 
Up next, Milligan returns home to Mathes Tennis Center for an AAC match against Reinhardt University Sunday at 2 p.m. It will be the first of four remaining home matches for Milligan to close out the regular season.
