MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 12, 2019) â€"
Camron Harper threw six solid innings and
Juan Vasquez and
Braden Jones both produced three hits to help Milligan College's baseball team take the opening game of a doubleheader against No. 24 Bryan College Friday on Anglin Field. Milligan won game one 15-5 in a run-ruled eight innings but lost game two 11-8 to lose the three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series two games to one.
ÂÂ
Harper went the first six innings of the win, allowing five hits, four runs (two earned) and one walk while striking out seven. He picked up his fourth win of the season, moving to 4-3.
ÂÂ
Harper fell behind twice in the game, 1-0 in the second and 2-1 in the fourth, each time on solo home runs. However, Milligan bounced back each time and went into the lead for good with five runs in the fourth inning.
Snaider Torrealba had a two-RBI single in the inning which, after a Bryan error, saw four runs come home on the play. Harper was then part of a similar play later in the game when an RBI single in the seventh turned out to score three runs on a Bryan error. Torrealba and Harper both came around to score on each of their base hits.
ÂÂ
Milligan (16-21, 7-14 AAC) led 9-5 through seven innings before putting the run rule into effect with six runs in the eighth.
Blake Dutton started the scoring with a two-RBI single. Vasquez followed with a double, then the game ended on a two-RBI double by
Kirby Smith.
ÂÂ
Vasquez and Jones led Milligan with 3-for-5 efforts in the game-one win.
ÂÂ
Despite the run rule,
Wyatt Richardson picked up the save, his first of the season, as he entered in a 6-4 game in the seventh. Richardson conceded a home run on his first pitch but settled in to allow only one more hit and no walks in his two innings of work. Richardson struck out three.
ÂÂ
Dutton and Vasquez helped Milligan get going with an early lead in game two, but a seven-run third by Bryan proved to be too much. Bryan's first three runs in the third came from the long ball, then the Lions (29-12, 14-7 AAC) added single runs in each of the next four frames.
ÂÂ
Dutton and Torrealba both provided RBI's on sacrifice flies in the third and fourth innings, and Milligan rallied with three runs in the seventh, but it was too little, too late.
ÂÂ
Dutton and
Baily Psathas both were 2-for-3 in the loss.
ÂÂ
Up next, Milligan heads to No. 7 University of the Cumberlands for a midweek game Tuesday, April 16, before returning home for a three-game AAC series against St. Andrews next weekend. The weekend series against SAU will mark the final home games of the regular season.
