Milligan picks up fifth win in a row 

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2020) – Four members of the Milligan College men's basketball team reached double-digit scoring and the Buffs defeated Johnson University 96-81 Monday night.

By the numbers

Trevor Hensley set a new career high for himself, scoring 25 from 9-for-15 shooting and four made three pointers. Mike Featherston had his first double-double of his career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jacob Cawood scored a game high of 26 points with 13 of his points coming from the free throw line. Cawood was 13-for-14 in free throw shots, 5-for-8 in field goals and 3-for-5 from behind the three-point arch. Bo Pless rounded out the Buffs in double-digit scoring with 12 points and added five rebounds. 

Nathan Hastings and Desean Green nearly missed joining the double-digit column with each scoring nine points apiece. 

Milligan took advantage of Johnson turnovers as they finished the night with 14. Milligan also outshot the Royals as they finished with a three-point shooting percentage of 21.7% and the Buffs finished with 41.9% from behind the three-point line. 

Game flow 

It was back-and-forth for the first eight minutes of play with neither team able to break away with the lead. During that time there were 10 lead changes and eight ties. With a little over 12 minutes left, Cawood hit a triple then turned around and made a field goal twenty seconds later to give the Buffs a 23-18 lead, and the momentum for the rest of the first half. 

Milligan entered the second half leading 43-36. Six seconds into the second half Pless connected for a three-pointer to give Milligan their first double-digit lead of the game. A Hensley field goal nearly two minutes later would give Milligan a double-digit lead for majority of the rest of the game until the Royals scored a field goal with 23 seconds left to make the score 90-81. Milligan would finish the game going on a 6-0 run by Cawood going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. 

Up next 

Milligan travels to Kentucky Christian University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The women's team will play at 5:30 p.m. with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
