MILLIGAN, Tenn. (August 27, 2021) – The Milligan University volleyball team earned its first win of the 2021 season with a 3-0 sweep of Fisk at Milligan Mountain Madness on Friday afternoon.
Milligan 3, Fisk 0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-21)
Freshman middle blocker Ella Maiden led the Buffs with 10 kills on 15 swings with no errors for a .667 hitting percentage. Sarah Grace Larkey added six kills while Carley Gregory had five.
Paxton Adkins led the Buffs' defense with 11 digs, Cameron McConnell had eight digs and 10 assists. Ashelyn Vandergriff dished out a dozen assists.
The Buffs' reeled off runs of seven- and five-point runs in the first set to come away with a 25-18 victory. Milligan led 14-13 in the second set before securing six of the next seven points to seize control of the set. In the third, the Buffs raced out to a 14-3 lead and held off the surging Bulldogs to snag a three- set sweep.
Milligan 3, UT Southern 0 (20-25, 20-25, 18-25)
In the nightcap, UT Southern toppled the Buffs 3-0 behind a 17 kill performance from the Firehawks' Brianna Turner.
Maiden and Gregory led the way offensively with seven kills apiece. Taylor Pavich had 10 assists, Adkins added 14 digs and Layla Grant had 10 digs.
Milligan closes out Mountain Madness tomorrow with a noon matchup against Cumberlands and a 5:30 tilt against Blue Mountain.
