WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Milligan men's basketball team continued their road-heavy non-conference slate on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, N.C., as they faced off with Carolina University. The Buffs controlled the game from the opening tip, ultimately racing away with an 82-45 victory.
Neither side shot particularly well in the first half, but Milligan was markedly better than the hosting Bruins. The Buffs shot 12-of-30 in the half for a mark of 40%. On the other side, Carolina was just 8-of-33 for a 24.2% clip. At the conclusion of the half, Milligan held a 34-20 advantage.
Offensive production erupted for the Buffaloes in the second half, as they produced at a 19-of-36 (52.8%) clip in the final 20 minutes, scoring 48 points. Carolina was a bit better than the first half, but only marginally. They converted on 11-of-32 (34.4%) shots and scored 25 points.
Tamba and Rivers led the squad with seven boards each, while Gold and Jayme Peay also added five backboards.
McClure had a trio of steals, and Gold had a pair as the two players with multiple takeaways. Piripi Korent and Griffin Andricks each had rejections in the triumph.
Milligan is now 4-1 and will be back on the floor in eight days, as they face off with preseason Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) favorite, Pikeville in Kentucky on Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
