COLUMBUS, Ga. (February 17, 2024) – The Milligan University softball team continued at the NAIA Leadoff Classic on Saturday. The Buffs were defeated by Calumet 12-2 and were tied with No. 12 Mobile until the sixth inning before falling 2-0.
Game 1 – Calumet 12, Milligan 2 (5 innings)
Alexis Brown and Alana Parsons both swatted solo home runs in the day's opening game. However a nine-run second inning by Crimson Wave tilted the game in Calumet's favor. Calumet added three runs in the fourth to secure the run-rule win.
Brown had a double and home run.
Game 2 – No. 12 Mobile 2, Milligan 0
Game two starter Katelin Secrist held the 12th-ranked Rams scoreless through five innings. She stranded multiple baserunners in the first and third innings. The Buffs got a runner to second base in the second and fourth innings but could not break through.
Mobile scored with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2-0 lead going into the seventh. The Buffs went down in order as the Rams escaped with the 2-0 lead.
Mia Grassee had Milligan's lone hit in the ballgame. Secrist allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings.
Milligan closes its NAIA Leadoff Classic trip with a game against Lawrence Tech tomorrow morning.
