Softball splits AAC twinbill with KCU

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 14, 2024) - The Milligan University softball team and Kentucky Christian University each recorded shutout wins as the teams split the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader on Thursday.

Milligan claimed the opener 3-0 before Kentucky Christian came back to win the finale 1-0.

The Buffaloes are now 6-11 overall and 4-6 in AAC play. Milligan returns to action on Friday, March 22 when it hosts St. Andrews in conference action.

Game 1 - Milligan 3, Kentucky Christian 0

Milligan broke the scoreless deadlock in the fourth and tacked on two more runs in the fifth in collecting the 3-0 victory.

Hannah Bates singled in a run to put the Buffaloes up 1-0 in the fourth, and Alana Parsons and Alexis Brown each drove in a run in the fifth for a three-run advantage.

That was all the support pitcher Bree Presnell needed as she recorded the complete-game shutout, allowing no runs on four hits and one walk.

Milligan finished with five hits. Brown led the Buffs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Game 2 - Kentucky Christian 1, Milligan 0

Milligan was limited to four hits in the game, while Kentucky Christian scratched a run in the fifth to escape with the 1-0 outcome.

Despite the loss, Katelin Secrist pitched well as she allowed one earned run on five hits and no walks with one strikeout.
