(RV) Baseball bested in conference doubleheader

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 30, 2024) - It was a tough day at the ballpark for Milligan University baseball as it dropped an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader to visiting No. 21 Tennessee Wesleyan University on Saturday.

Despite taking the early lead in both games, the Buffaloes fell 13-6 in the opener and 11-1 in the finale.

The losses drop Milligan to 22-12 overall and 11-7 in AAC play.

Milligan steps outside of conference play on Wednesday when it visits Alice Lloyd College (Ky.) for a single game. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Game 1 - Tennessee Wesleyan 13, Milligan 6

Vasili Kaloudis gave Milligan the early lead, but it was short-lived as Tennessee Wesleyan stormed back for the 7-run win.

Kaloudis blasted a solo home run in the first to put the Buffs up 1-0. However, the Bulldogs came back with five runs in the second and two more in the third for a 7-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, Milligan rallied to pull within a run. Kaloudis scored on a sac fly, and Braden Spano scored on a bases-loaded walk to cut the margin to 7-3. Andrew Mathias capped the rally with a three-run double to make it a 7-6 contest.

Unfortunately, Milligan's offense went hitless the rest of the game while Tennessee Wesleyan tacked on six insurance runs to seal the win.

The Buffs collected nine hits with Spano leading the way in going 2-for-5.

Game 2 - Tennessee Wesleyan 11, Milligan 1

Milligan once again grabbed the early lead as Cade Kalehuawehe singled in Jose Paula in the second inning.

The lead did not last long as Tennessee Wesleyan put up a four-spot in the third to take the lead for good. The Bulldogs added five in the fifth and two more in the sixth to secure the 11-1 outcome.
