Softball falls to NCAA Division II Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (April 17, 2024) - Milligan University softball hit the road to face NCAA Division II Carson-Newman University (Tenn.), dropping the doubleheader on Tuesday.

The losses put the Buffaloes at 12-21 overall.

Milligan is back in action Sunday when it hosts Union (Ky.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Game 1 - Carson-Newman 6, Milligan 0

Offense was hard to come by for the Buffs as they were limited to two hits the entire game.

Mia Grasse collected both hits, going 2-for-3. She was the lone baserunner for Milligan in the game as the Carson-Newman staff did not walk or hit any batters, and the Eagle defense did not commit an error.

The game was close much of the way as Carson-Newman scored one run in the first and another in the third. However, the Eagles used a four-run sixth to seal the outcome.

Game 2 - Carson-Newman 15, Milligan 7

Take away the first inning, and the Buffs played the Eagles even in the second game.

Carson-Newman opened with an eight-run rally in the first. Milligan, though, responded in the second with a five-run rally of its own. Morgan Lawson started the fun with a three-run home run.

From that point on, the teams traded runs as Carson-Newman used the first-inning cushion to collect the win.

Maggie Johnson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in for the Buffs, while Layney Loyd picked up a pair of RBI.
