NEW ORLEANS, La. - On Monday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) selected
Ellen-Mary Kearney as the USTFCCCA Women's NAIA Athlete of the Week after her outstanding record-breaking win at the Appalachian Atheltic Conference (AAC) Cross Country Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. at Sequoyah Park on Friday.
Kearney unfurled an unbelievable 19:59.0 mark in the 6k championship, which is the first time in history at the NAIA level that a women's XC athlete has broken the 20-minute mark in the 6k. With the win as an individual, she helped propel her squad to their sixth straight conference title. Unsurprisingly, it was a meet, school and personal-best time that she achieved on the course with two weeks remaining until the NAIA Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on Nov. 21. It is the second time this season that Kearney has been selected for the USTFCCCA's national honor.
