Castle Wins Individual Title, No. 13 MU Women's Golf Places Third at AAC Spring Championships

ACWORTH, Ga. - On Monday and Tuesday, the Milligan University women's golf program battled for supremacy at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships & NAIA Direct Qualifier. The squad saw their standout senior, Kate Castle, become the conference's individual champion with an out-of-this-world performance. Overall, the team placed third out of eight total outfits, having taken 916 strokes to finish 52-over-par through three rounds.

Castle's incredible three-round line (69, 70, 73; 212) was the top performance ever by a Milligan women's golfer at the AAC Spring Championships. It's the second-lowest three-round score by a Milligan golfer, all-time. Kody Fawcett's 210 at the 2013 Bear Trace Tims Ford is the leading total. Additionally, Castle was the one player in the event to finish under par, flaunting her -4 score while finishing six strokes ahead of any other competitor.

Bailey McGaha stepped up as the No. 2 finisher for the Buffaloes, ending up with a 14-over-par score of 230 shots. She had her top round in the final 18 holes, notching a +2 74-stroke showing. She shot 78 in each of the first two times through the course.

Catalina Easley and Liz Miller finished in back-to-back spots in 16th and 17th. Easley had 239 total strokes, while Miller posted 241.

Also playing for the Buffs in the tourney was Mallory TeVrucht, who placed 23rd with a total of 248 strokes.

The Milligan women will now wait to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship in Ypsilanti, Mich. on May 13-16 at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
