KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Milligan University softball's foray into the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament began on Monday afternoon with a battle against the No. 7-seeded Golden Tigers of Brenau University. Offense was hard to come by for both sides, but a three-run third inning by Brenau proved to be all that was needed to fell the Buffs, 3-0.
Brenau's three tallies came in the third frame, when they had a run-scoring double, and a pair of RBI singles.
Milligan's greatest opportunity to score came in the top of the fourth, when they had three of their four hits in the game. Unfortunately, the offensive execution was not there in the frame, as they stranded a pair of runners and had another thrown out on the base paths.
Four different players combined to total the four hits for the team. Maggie Johnson, Alana Parsons, Jordan Roullettwheeler and Alexis Brown all had knocks, with Parsons delivering the only extra-base hit, a leadoff two-bagger.
Milligan had Faith Caldwell take the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on five hits across three innings. She was relieved by Bree Presnell who tossed three hitless innings after Caldwell.
The loss means that the Buffaloes will be matching up with the loser of the No. 4-seeded Johnson University Royals and the No. 5-seeded Montreat College Cavaliers on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m., with their season on the line.
