KINGSPORT, Tenn. – On Friday, Milligan University baseball matched for a second straight day with the top seed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn. The second meeting was not as fortuitous for the Buffaloes, as they fell 2-0 in a true pitchers' duel.
Reinhardt scored the game's first run via an error in the bottom of the fifth, as the unearned tally ended up being the game-deciding run.
The Eagles added another run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single to extend their lead to 2-0 with just one more chance for the Buffs.
Milligan would go down in order in the ninth and fall by that 2-0 tally.
Overall, Milligan only had two hits, as Cade Kalehuawehe and Nick Iezzi notched the knocks.
Spencer Rife's eight full innings on the bump with two runs (one earned) and 10 hits allowed kept the Buffaloes on the periphery for the entirety of the contest, but in the end, the lack of offense against the AAC Pitcher of the Year was the decisive factor.
Next up for Milligan is an elimination contest against the Eagles on Saturday at 9 a.m., as the two teams will battle for a berth into the AAC Tournament Championship against either Tennessee Wesleyan or Johnson.
