SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 20-ranked Milligan University men's soccer's second contest of the regular season took place on Wednesday night in Savannah, Ga., where the Bees of SCAD Savannah played host to the Buffs. After a scoreless opening 86 minutes, the Buffaloes tallied an improbable goal with just a trio of minutes left on the clock to win by a 1-0 final score.
Half number one was a period in which the two sides were feeling each other out, as the two sides split four total shots evenly. Milligan was the lone squad to have a shot on frame in the opening frame, which was taken by
Mavroudis Katsantonis.
The second half saw the Bees maintain the heavy majority of the shot attempts, as they took a total of seven attempts, with two ending up on net. Milligan took just a pair of shots, as well, as the only shot on frame in the half came off the boot of
Kerim Akpinar, who had his first attempt blocked and then took a long shot off a volley. That shot traveled on a frozen rope to the top-right corner of the net past the diving goalkeeper to make it 1-0 in the 87
th minute.
Adria Alles made a couple of tough saves in the 88
th minute and the 90
th minute to help seal the 1-0 triumph.
Six total shots came from the Buffaloes in the battle, with Akpinar and Katsantonis managing two shots each with one on goal, apiece. The other two attempts that missed the frame were taken by
Emir Basar and
Marco Lattanzi.
Alles only had to face the two shots on net that he saved in the final minutes, but he was able to take care of those two important plays to earn himself his first win of 2025, as well as his first shutout.
The final contest for the squad prior to the start of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play is on Saturday, Aug. 29, when the Buffaloes head to Portsmouth, Ohio for a battle with the Shawnee State Bears at 6 p.m.
