Buffs Men's Soccer Concedes Goal in Final Minutes of Loss to Shawnee State

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – On Saturday evening, the No. 20- ranked Milligan men's soccer team took the pitch in Portsmouth, Ohio for a contest against the Shawnee State Bears. After a hard-fought game, the Buffs fell victim to an improbable goal in the 89th minute to lose 1-0.

Milligan had the first opportunity of the game in the 20th minute when a Shawnee State foul gave Emir Basar a free kick near the box, but his well struck ball hit off the crossbar. The rest of the first half was evenly matched and the two sides finished the period even in the shot department with four apiece.

The second half was a defensive battle, as the score remained tied at 0-0 until the final two minutes of the game when Shawnee State sent a shot through the box that found the back of the net. Milligan had one last chance as time expired, but Basar's shot missed wide of the goal.

Unai Cruz led Milligan's shot totals with three total and one on net. Marco Lattanzi also had one shot that was on frame, but saved. Asa Blake and Johnny Salgado took the remaining two shots, which each ended up off target.

Adria Alles saved four of the five shots on goal and his record moves to 1-1-1 for the season with the loss.

Next up for Milligan is their first home match of the season, an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest, against Spartanburg Methodist on Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m.
