Madejski’s Brace Fuels (RV) Buffs Men’s Soccer’s Comeback Win at Columbia

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Saturday, after experiencing a two-and-a-half hour delay to their start time, the (RV) Milligan University men's soccer team tussled with the Koalas of Columbia College (S.C.) on the road. After trailing for the contest's first 63 minutes, the Buffaloes scored two unanswered goals in the second half to take home an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory.

Much of the first half was controlled by the Buffaloes, as they held a commanding 9-3 shot advantage. However, it was the Koalas who scored the matchup's first tally in the 17th minute, as they would end up leading 1-0 at the intermission.

In the second half, Columbia simply could not hold the Buffs down forever, as a corner kick from Emir Basar found the head of Justin Madejski at the near post in the 64th minute. Madejski directed his header into the twine to tie the game at 1-1. Following more impressive attacking play from Milligan, Madejski found himself on he ball with just under six minutes left. He took a left-footed shot from just inside the box and a Koalas' defender reirected the shot with his head into the back of the net. That miscue gave the Buffaloes a 2-1 lead that they would cling to for the remainder, taking home a one-goal triumph.

Overall, Milligan had 12 of their 23 shots in the battle threaten the net. Madejski had five of those shots on frame, while six were split evenly by Mavroudis Katsantonis, Asa Blake and Kerim Akpinar. Kodjo Bakou also took one.

Adria Alles made four saves on five shots faced, moving his record to 5-2-1 after the victory.

Milligan's senior night is set to be on Wednesday, Sept. 24 after the Buffs' next contest against Bluefield University on Anglin Field at 5 p.m.
