MILLIGAN, Tenn. — Milligan University's women's soccer team hit the pitch again on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field, as they faced the Columbia International University Rams on Senior Day. After a scoreless first half, the Buffaloes grabbed an early tally out of the intermission, earning a 1-0 victory to celebrate their 17 seniors.
The opening 45 minutes of the contest were tightly contested, as the sides combined for 17 shot attempts. The Columbia International squad took 10 of them to Milligan's seven, but the Buffs had more shots on target, holding a 4-3 edge. The score remained knotted up at 0-0 at the break.
It wasn't a long wait for the first goal of the second half, though, as the Buffaloes notched a tally from
Halle Steele after just 26 seconds.
Selma Salimi set up Steele with a great feed into the top of the box, where Steele finished to the top-right corner of the net to give MU a 1-0 lead. From there, there wasn't much pressure from the Rams, as they only took four second-half shots and had only two on net. The Buffaloes held on to win the 1-0 contest on Senior Day, putting themselves in a much stronger position to potentially earn a spot in the AAC Tournament, as they currently sit in ninth place.
Twelve total Milligan shots were taken in the win, as
Lauren Hawkley had the lion's share. She took six shots and had four of them saved by CIU. Steele and Salimi each took on shot on net, and
Lucy Knowles,
Natalie Roper,
Raelyn Muniz and
Lorena Gonzalez all had one attempt that did not test the Rams' keeper.
Christain Davis saved all six shots that she faced on the day, earning the clean sheet and her fifth victory of the season. Her record moves to 5-6-2 for the 2026 slate.
The Buffs (5-6-2, 4-4-1 AAC) now head to Brenau University to face the Golden Tigers in Gainesville, Ga. on Monday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
