No. 24 Milligan Women's Golf Places Second out of Eight Teams at SSU Tiger Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Milligan University's No. 24-ranked women's golf squad played their first event of the spring season on Monday and Tuesday, heading out to Savannah, Ga. for the Savannah State Tiger Invitational played at the Crosswinds Golf Club. There were three total rounds within the two-day event, as the squad played 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Overall, the spring season started in a spectacular fashion for the Lady Buffs, with three top-10 individual finishes, as well as a second-place finish out of eight as a team. At the conclusion of the 36 holes, the Buffs were knotted in first place with Christian Brothers, but a loss in a tiebreaking one-hole playoff put Milligan in second place.

Bailey McGaha finished the fall season surging to the top of the Buffaloes' ranks and continued that impressive play into the spring, as she earned a top-five finish, placing fourth at the Savannah Invitational. McGaha finished with an overall score of 12-over-par at 228 strokes. In the second round on Monday, she had the low round of the tournament with a +1, 73, which put her at six-over-par after shooting a 77 in round one. The final 18 holes on day two resulted in 78 strokes on the par-72 course.

Mallory TeVrucht was the next Milligan golfer on the final leaderboard, placing sixth at +19 for the event. After rounds of eight-over-par and four-over-par, she notched a +7 showing at 79 strokes to climb up the standings.

The most consistent scores on the event came courtesy of Tessa Wilck, as she had only a six-stroke discrepancy on the final scorecards in the three rounds. Her lowest round was the first, in which she finished right at 77 strokes. In round two she shot an 11-over-par 83 and followed with an 81 in the final round. The consistent scoring right around the 80-stroke mark earned Wilck a top 10 finish in ninth place.

Madison Butler started the event with top 10 scoring, with a sub-80 (77) in round two that followed an 11-over-par 83 in round one. However, she struggled in the final round, going 18-over-par in the final round to fall out of the top 10, finishing in 14th place.

Christa Woodard played as an individual and dazzled with impressive rounds of 79 and 80 in rounds one and three, but an outlier 96 in the second round significantly hindered her placement, leaving her in 18th place on the final leaderboard.

The Agnes McAmis Memorial held at The Crossings Golf Club in Jonesborough, Tenn., is the next stop on the Milligan women's golf spring schedule. The tournament takes place on March 16-17.
