Milligan Baseball Suffers Shutout Loss On The Road

WALESKA, Ga. –  (RV) Milligan University baseball was on the road on Tuesday afternoon in Waleska, Ga. for game one of a three-game series against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Reinhardt University Eagles. It was a tough day for the Milligan offense, as they were shut out in the contest and the Buffs fell by a final of 7-0.

Reinhardt scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning, when Milligan walked two batters to put runners on base and a double down the right field line plated the game's first run. The second run came across following the double, after a single to right field scored the runner from second.

The Eagles' advantage would remain at 2-0, until a run was added on to the lead in the fourth inning. A leadoff double from Reinhardt was followed by an error on the Milligan defense and the runner scored on the miscue.
In the next inning, RU took a commanding seven-run lead after scoring four runs. The Eagles began with a double and a hit-by-pitch to put two runners on base. Then, with one swing of the bat three runs were driven in on a home run to right field. Following the homer, a single and advancement on a wild pitch put a runner in scoring position and a single to the outfield made it a seven-run game.

In the eighth inning, Milligan was able to get some traffic on the base paths, as Nick Iezzie singled to lead things off and Gaven Jones followed with a walk. Then, Cade Kalehuawehe drew a base on balls to load the bases. However, the offensive struggles continued on the day, and the Buffs let the Eagles off the hook, exiting the inning with no runs to show for it.

With the game firmly in the Eagles' control, neither side plated another run and Reinhardt went on to capture the first game of the series by a final score of 7-0.

Landon Lutterman (2-for-4) was the only Milligan player with multiple hits in the contest. Luis Quintero (1-for-4, 2B) and Iezzi (1-for-3) a each had one hit to make up the team's four combined base hits.
Ward (4.2 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 2 BB) took the loss in his start, while Brune (1.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, BB) and Hendrix (1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H) combined to finish off the contest in relief.

The Buffs (19-6, 9-4 AAC) will look to right the ship with the series still up for grabs tomorrow, March 14 in a doubleheader with Reinhardt. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
