JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Milligan University's No. 24-ranked women's golf team took part in the Agnes McAmis Memorial tournament on Sunday hosted by Tusculum University at The Crossings Golf Club. The tournament consisted of eight schools playing 36 holes. What an afternoon it was for the Lady Buffs, as Milligan came away tied for first place in the team standings after 36 holes and held the tiebreaker over Tusculumn to take first-place, while sweeping the top two individual spots. The Buffs posted a team score of 598 across the two rounds, which tied them with Tusculum. At the conclusion of the 36 holes, two Milligan golfers were tied for first place, and a one-hole playoff determined the individual champion.
Mallory TeVrucht started the afternoon swinging the stick well, as she scored one-under-par with a 71 in the first 18 holes. In the second round, she carded a 72 to remain under par, shooting a combined 143. In the end, she was tied with teammate
Bailey McGaha for first place and ultimately won in a playoff hole. With the win, she also earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Bailey McGaha started the day shooting four-over-par with 76 strokes in the first round. In the second round, she came back and posted the tournament's low round with a five-under-par 67 to put her in a tie for first. The playoff hole loss moved her back to second, but with the stellar overall performance on the day she earned All-Tournament Team honors.
The next Milligan golfer in the final standings was
Catalina Easley in 12th place. She was consistent all day, starting with a 76 in the first round and closing with a 78, finishing with a combined 154 (+10).
Rounding out Milligan's top-20 finishes was
Tessa Wilck in 17th place, who started with a nine-over-par 81 in the first 18 holes. Then, she was able to cut four strokes off that total in round two with a five-over-par 77 in the second 18.
The final counting score for Milligan came from
Christa Woodard, who finished in 34th. On the day she totaled 170 strokes, finishing 26-over-par.
Representing Milligan as individuals,
Madison Butler (7th, 149),
Layla Fox (35th, 171) and
Skye Perdue all put up solid efforts to round out the day for the Buffs
The East Tennessee Collegiate held at the Buffs home course of Johnson City Club is the next stop on the Milligan women's golf spring schedule. The tournament takes place on April 7.
