GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- On Thursday, the Milligan University men's and women's indoor track & field squads competed on day one of three in the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships which is hosted in Gainesville, Fla.
The Buffs kicked off the championships with one relay event for the men, as well as one for the women.
The day began with the men's 4x800 relay team comprised of
Aaron Gottlied,
Marti Molins Rallo,
Luis Peralta,
Carter Windham finishing with a time of 7:44.55 for twelfth place. The time was a result of the baton being knocked out of a Milligan runner's hand, as the team had an unfortunate start to the event.
On the women's side, in the Distance Medley Relay,
Ellen-Mary Kearney,
Karly Wilhjelm,
Aleah Soderman and
Kaylee Coll set a Milligan record with a final time of 11:51.21. The impressive mark put them in second place behind Taylor (Ind.) and qualified them for the finals, which will take place on Saturday.
For the men on day two tomorrow,
Luis Peralta will begin the day in the 600m at 1:35 p.m. Marti Molins-Rallo will follow in the 800m at 2:25 p.m. Then,
Carter Windham will run the 1000m at 2:45 p.m. Finally,
Aaron Gottlied will cap off the Milligan runners on the men's side in the 3000m at 3:15 p.m.
On the women's side on day two
McKenzie Fitzgerald will start the day in 800m at 2:20 p.m. Next up will be
Ana Canibano in the 1000m race at 2:35 p.m. In the next event, Milligan will have three runners in
Ellen-Mary Kearney,
Karly Wilhjelm and
McKenzie Fitzgerald in the 3000m at 3 p.m. Next,
Annabelle Stewart will cap the day off in the 5000m at 3:55 p.m.
