HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Milligan University's women's tennis squad continued their play at the PTR Tennis Fest in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on Monday morning, while the Buffs' (RV) men played their first match of their tournament. Both squads matched up with the Lawrence Tech (Mich.) Blue Devils, earning a tight 4-3 win on the women's side and a more comfortable 4-1 triumph in the men's battle.

The men earned the doubles point on the backs of all three doubles pairings. Michal Curlej and Thiago Petry earned a No. 1 win with a 6-3 margin, while Phil Schollhorn and Gonzaga Lafarga teamed up for a standout 6-2 triumph in the No. 2 matchup. Lastly, Brayden Kennedy and Tomas Tenil pulled out a 6-4 win.

Three Milligan wins were recorded in singles, as Lafarga ran away with matchup No. 1, scoring a 6-2, 6-0 triumph. Curlej won the second match on a tiebreak, as he fell 7-5 in the first set but came back with a vengeance 6-0 in set two. He won his 10-point tiebreak by a final of 10-4. His win clinched the match. It was Enzo Bardin in the No. 6 tilt who won the remaining bout, totaling a rather simple 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Milligan's women had to fight in their match, as they took two out of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Melissa Duarte and Madison Berry outlasted their opponents 6-4 in the No. 1 match, while Parker White and Lauren Wimmer did the same, going to a 7-5 final.

Wins from the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles players for the Buffaloes was the difference in the contest, as Tara Stewart (2-6, 6-2, 10-3), Berry (6-3, 6-3) and Laurel Rich (4-6, 6-2, 10-4) showed some real mental fortitude en route to a eventual 4-3, nail-biter win.

The women have the day off tomorrow, while the men return to the court for a PTR Tennis Fest matchup with the Berry College (Ga.) Vikings at 1 p.m.
